Farm MAINTAINS BEAVER-balance WITH CULVERT FENCING

Forest Grove, Oregon

A fescue and corn farm in Forest Grove, Oregon worked to restore native riparian vegetation along the creek that runs through their farm. Then some busy beavers moved in and clogged up a culvert to build their pond, flooding fields in the process. The farm owner appreciated the natural habitat the beaver created, so he opted for coexistence rather than trapping.

The creek is narrow, so we installed a double half moon pipe and cage exclusion fence system. This pushed the beaver dam back, protecting the culvert while still allowing the beaver to have sufficient water depth in their pond. The owner reported that he’s pleased he gets to enjoy the increased song birds and late season water the beaver provide, while also knowing his flooding problems have been solved.

Project installed in partnership with our friends at Beaver State Wildlife Solutions.
