Beaver-Friendly golf

Gresham, Oregon

Installing a pipe in fence culvert protector meant beavers could stay and continue to dam without blocking the culvert or flooding the golf course.

Beaver had moved into the water features on a popular golf course in Gresham, Oregon. Leadership needed to address blocked culverts and flooding on the course. Members appreciated wildlife and wanted to coexist with the beaver, so the solution was a culvert protector with pond leveler combination. The solution and build protected the incredibly wide opening to the culvert, while also allowing the course to set the exact height of the pond by raising the outlet pipe up or down.

While we prefer to use only hand tools when possible, in this case, the degree of culvert clogging was so extreme that we needed an excavator to get it dug out. In the months since installation, the resident beavers have behaved exactly as hoped, rebuilding their dam against the fence, yet unaware of the pipe that’s allowing the water to flow through.

Project installed with our friends at Beaver State Wildlife Solutions.
